Skin care tends to be appealed during our waking hours, but what about all that time we spend asleep?
Those slumbering hours are a great time to give your skin some tender loving care. If you apply these products and approaches nightly, you’ll awake to fresh-looking skin in the morning:
1.) Never! Ever! Ever! Go To Bed Without Washing Your Face
Never! Ever! Make-up is great way to face the day with but it’s no good overnight. It can be the very last thing you want to do at the end of long day and can seem like just one more obligation. But take care of yourself and nurture your skin with a gentle skin cleansing.
If you don’t, your makeup as well as the elements that your skin faces throughout the day, will go to bed with you and clog your pores.
No only that, but a study in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology found urban living exposes skin to increased pollution which results in more dark spots and wrinkling. You want to be sure to get all you can off of your skin to give it time to breathe and rest.
2.) Dab on Problem Spots
When you feel a blemish or problem area starting to establish itself, take a focused approach with a spot treatment.
Once you’ve washed your face apply a small amount of a drying lotion directly on the problem area. This very targeted acne treatment, made up of salicylic acid and calamine, is quick acting and dries fast too.
As the lotion dries up, the skin underneath does as well. The drying action forces whiteheads and other trouble spots to recoil while you snooze.
3.) Rejuvenate with Retinoid
To help keep wrinkles away, retinoid might be the product for you. It works by upping collagen production in your skin. At the same time, it stimulates blood vessels to be generated in the skin. All of this gives the skin a glow while fading age spots and can increasingly rejuvenate the skin by reducing precancerous skin spots.
The results of using a product with retinoid won’t start to appear until after 3 to 6 months of regular.
4.) Lie On Your Back
What position you sleep in can affect your skin’s appearance, especially if you sleep on your stomach. When you lie on your tummy or on the same side of your body each night you can press permanent lines and creases into your skin.
Try to sleep on your back when possible, this will allow you face to not have any pressure on it.
If you can’t manage to retrain yourself to snooze on your back, at least swap out your cotton pillowcases for satin ones.
5.) Elevate Your Head
Who hasn’t woken up with eyes that are puffy and swollen. It certainly doesn’t make you want to face the day — instead it makes you want to head straight back to bed.
To avoid this and to rise from sleep with bright eyes, stack some pillows beneath your head. The key is to raise your head above your heart, making it impossible for fluid to pool in your face and around your eyes.
6.) Plug In A Humidifier
Even when you sleeping dry skin isn’t healthy. To prevent dryness which can cause your face to be irritated or itchy run a humidifier while you sleep. By keeping your skin moist and supple over night, you’ll awake with a fresh appearance.
7.) Avoid Caffeine & Exercise before Bed
To get the full benefit of your slumber, it’s important that you actually catch those zzz’s. To ensure you have full and deep sleep, make sure to avoid activities or products that stimulate your mind or body before bed.
This means putting down the coffee 3 to 5 hours before you plan to head to bed. Also plan to get your workout in a few hours before you try to wind down for the night.
Once you have called it a night, try meditation to calm your body and mind. A great (and free) app to guide you through mediation is stop, breathe and think.
Sleep is essential for fresh looking skin. Harness the restful hours in your day with these seven simple skin care approaches and see the difference on your face in the morning.
