During our last visit to Target, I spied these cute little boxes in the dollar section and thought it would be a fun project for Ben and I! Well really, for me because Ben doesn’t give a shit about growing flowers in jars at this point in his life!
Each box contains a little pot, a packet of seeds and some soil. I followed the directions (something I rarely do because directions are for suckers) and put the compact, soil pellet into a small bowl and added a tablespoon of water. It instantly puffed up and morphed into a little pile of dirt! Fantastic! I then thought to myself that this step in the directions was indeed, for suckers, because it was completely unnecessary and just made me end up with a small dirty bowl when I was done that could have been avoided. That’ll teach me for following directions instead of launching myself at something with complete abandon! Anyway ….
Just like the directions said, I carefully placed “no more than 6” seeds and covered lightly with soil. I went with 5 seeds, because apparently any more than 6 is overkill. Don’t worry! I did cover them lightly with soil but I had to stop and take a picture first #bloggerprobs. I also had to gripe about the dirty bowl again. I have to admit, when I went to edit these photos later on, I was still a bit miffed about that damn bowl! I really need to get a life.
Since I am an absolute genius, I had an Oprah worthy Ah Ha! moment and pulled out some mason jars to act as mini greenhouses for my little pretties! This is partially because I thought it would be cute and functional, and partially because I have 2 cats who get into everything and don’t let me have nice things like flowers. Take that Neffi and Cleo! Assholes.
I cleaned up my mess (curse that damn bowl) and lovingly placed the jars on a sunny windowsill. I will report back with my progress! So far, the cats have not noticed that I am trying to have nice things and grow flowers all at the same time. I may have outsmarted them! “You sneaky Mom!” she exclaimed with great relish! There were 2 pop culture reference in that last sentence. Bonus points to anyone who gets them!
