It’s not very often that I share details about the area that I live in but this was just too pretty not to! There was a website circulating Facebook about the various Waterfalls of New Brunswick and since I love to see these natural wonders for myself, I took notice. I wasn’t the only one because the next weekend that we were at our trailer, Nick’s cousin Missy asked if we wanted to come see some that weren’t far from where we stay.
It was a very quick drive for us from Cambridge Narrows along Route 710 to Shaw Road. If you’re searching for it on Google Maps, you’ll find it by searching Shaw Road, Henderson Settlement, NB. It is also known as Shaw Falls and this particular picture actually shows what is known as Lower Henderson Falls, as it is part of a larger brook system that you can follow for a ways upstream.
We had a lot of fun splashing in the chilly water and exploring the area. The falls were very easily accessible down a short path and set of stairs and were very well kept. There was a sign asking people to please clean up after themselves and bring out any garbage that they take in and it seems that people follow this advice because I didn’t notice any garbage around.
The pool at the bottom of the falls had areas deep enough to swim in but not deep enough to jump. There were also shallow areas that the kids enjoyed playing in. I’d recommend water shoes (we ended up buying some when we got home so we’d have them for next time) because it is quite rocky and some of the rocks are slippery.
As I mentioned, you can also follow the water upstream to see more falls along the way. Ben was more interested in running around the woods and playing so Nick and I stayed back and I took some pictures from afar.
There was a group of people there at the same time we were who brought folding chairs and some snacks which totally makes me want to go back soon on a hot day with a picnic lunch! It’s the perfect spot to cool off from the heat by sitting in the shade or going for a swim.
I often take it for granted that I live in such a beautiful area with places like this very close by. New Brunswick has so many hidden gems just like this one and as the boys get bigger, I’m looking forward to discovering more! We don’t have to travel to exotic locations to see a little piece of heaven. I say that, but I wouldn’t object to an exotic vacation either!
I also took a short video so check it out below and be sure to give it a thumbs up and subscribe to my channel!
