Let me just preface this post by saying that the toy area in our home doesn’t always look like this. Those books in the middle end up all over the floor a lot, and there are usually little trucks everywhere BUT having this storage unit makes cleanup very quick and easy because there is a place for things and it’s not all piled in the corner like it used to be.
When we bought our house, we weren’t thinking ahead and didn’t plan to have enough room for a family and all of the fun things that go along with having kids around. When Ben was an infant, it was easy because he didn’t have very many toys so all of his little rattles and stuffies fit into a small basket on the floor. Now, it’s a totally different story! This kid has more toys than he knows what to do with and they just keep coming.
My father-in-law is a very handy guy and was able to actually combine 3 separate cube units to make this perfect custom build for the space. This room is my favorite spot in the house. It’s a beautiful sunroom that stretches along the entire front of our house. I love sitting in here with a cup of tea and a good book but I was happy to give up half of my quiet space to a rowdy child!
There are 2 of the 3×3 cube units, which flank a 1×3 unit that has been modified by a few inches to fit the space. The middle section was also shorter than the other 2 units so it is raised up a bit to make everything the same height. I absolutely love how it turned out and it makes things so much easier and more organized for me and our toy storage! I didn’t want the whole thing to be filled with those cube bins so there are just a few sprinkled in there. I planned to write this post a while ago so this photo was taken back in September and I am so surprised at how many MORE toys have been added since then!
We do have some larger items that aren’t able to nestle nicely into the cubes so I try my best to keep those off to the side. This is actually the other end of the same couch that’s in the last photo so everything is still together in one area. That’s not to say that they stay in these nice, neat places but we do try to manage it the best we can!
So there you have it!
How do you deal with the masses of toys that come with having children?
